Best Minecraft Server Plugins 2026, Top 50 List

The 50 best Minecraft server plugins in 2026, organized by category. Covers essentials, protection, chat, economy, fun, performance, admin, PvP, crossplay and more.

Building a great Minecraft server means choosing the right plugins. Too few and the experience feels bare; too many and you get conflicts, lag and confusion. This list collects the 50 most useful, actively maintained plugins as of 2026, organized by category. Every plugin here runs on Paper (and by extension Spigot and Purpur). Where a detailed setup guide exists on this site, we link directly to it.

Essentials, The foundation every server needs

1. EssentialsX, The all-in-one utility plugin that handles warps, homes, kits, teleportation, spawn, chat formatting, economy and hundreds of commands. If you install one plugin, make it this one. Full setup guide here.

2. LuckPerms, The gold standard for permission management. Groups, tracks, contexts, per-world permissions, web editor, LuckPerms does everything and does it well. Permissions guide here.

3. Vault, An API bridge that connects permission plugins, economy plugins and chat plugins so they can talk to each other. Required by dozens of other plugins. Economy and Vault guide here.

4. PlaceholderAPI (PAPI), Provides a universal placeholder system that hundreds of plugins hook into. Display player stats, balances, ranks, and custom data in scoreboards, tab lists, holograms and chat. Nearly every display plugin requires PAPI.

5. ProtocolLib, A library plugin that lets other plugins modify network packets. Many plugins list it as a dependency. You will not interact with it directly, but your server probably needs it.

Protection, Keep your world safe from griefers

6. WorldGuard, Region-based protection. Define areas, set flags (PvP off, no block breaking, no explosions), and protect builds of any size. Requires WorldEdit. WorldGuard guide here.

7. WorldEdit, Bulk block editing, region selection, clipboard operations, brushes. Essential for builders and required by WorldGuard.

8. GriefPrevention, Player-driven land claiming with a golden shovel. Players protect their own builds without needing staff intervention. Ideal for survival servers where admin-defined regions do not scale.

9. CoreProtect, Logs every block change, container access, chat message and entity kill. Roll back griefing to the exact second it happened with /co rollback. Non-negotiable for any public server.

10. AntiCheat (Vulcan / Grim / Matrix), Detects fly hacks, speed hacks, kill aura, x-ray and more. Vulcan is the current best-in-class premium option; Grim is an excellent free alternative. No public server should run without an anticheat.

Chat, Communication and formatting

11. EssentialsX Chat, Chat formatting module included with EssentialsX. Displays rank prefixes, suffixes and colored names in chat. Simple and effective for most servers.

12. VentureChat, Advanced chat plugin with channels (global, local, staff, trade), anti-spam, color code permissions and click-to-reply. Replaces EssentialsX Chat when you need more control.

13. InteractiveChat, Lets players share items, inventory, enderchest and equipment in chat by typing placeholders like [item]. Other players see a hoverable tooltip with the actual item details.

14. ChatSentry / ChatControl, Anti-spam, profanity filter, ad blocking, and chat moderation. Configurable regex rules, warning systems, and mute integration.

Economy, Making money mean something

15. ShopGUIPlus, A GUI-based admin shop where players buy and sell items at set prices. Clean interface, category-based menus, dynamic pricing support. The most popular admin shop plugin. Check the economy plugins comparison for alternatives.

16. AuctionHouse, Player-to-player marketplace. Players list items for sale, others browse and buy. Creates a real player-driven economy alongside or instead of admin shops.

17. Jobs Reborn, Players earn money by mining, farming, fishing, building and other activities. Configurable job types, leveling, and income scaling. The main way to generate currency flow on survival servers.

18. ChestShop, Physical shop signs placed on chests. Players create their own shops by placing a sign on a chest and setting a price. Old-school but reliable and immersive.

19. Treasury / EssentialsX Economy, Economy providers that register with Vault. EssentialsX includes a built-in economy; Treasury is a modern alternative API. At least one economy provider is needed for any plugin that involves money.

Fun, The plugins that keep players coming back

20. MythicMobs, Create custom mobs with unique abilities, drops, health, AI behaviors, skills and spawn conditions. Essential for boss fights, dungeon mobs and PvE content that goes beyond vanilla. Pairs well with MythicDungeons.

21. Citizens, The NPC framework. Create non-player characters that stand at spawn, give quests, act as shopkeepers or just provide atmosphere. Supports skins, custom names, and interaction scripts via Denizen. Citizens tutorial here.

22. CrazyCrates, Crate system with animations, configurable rewards, key types and previews. The standard plugin for cosmetic crate systems on survival and skyblock servers. Crate setup guide here.

23. ItemsAdder, Add custom items, blocks, mobs, GUIs, HUD elements and furniture using resource packs. No mods required on the client, everything renders through vanilla resource pack mechanics. Custom items guide here.

24. Oraxen, Alternative to ItemsAdder for custom items and blocks via resource packs. Lighter weight, Kotlin-based, with automatic resource pack hosting. Choose either ItemsAdder or Oraxen, not both.

25. mcMMO, Adds RPG skills to Minecraft. Mining, excavation, fishing, swords, axes, archery, each has a skill tree with leveling and abilities. Gives long-term progression to survival gameplay.

26. PlayerParticles, Cosmetic particle effects that players can apply to themselves. Trails, auras, hats made of particles. Popular as rank perks and store items.

27. HeadDatabase, Browse and place custom player head decorations from a database of over 40,000 heads. Useful for decoration, custom items, and NPC skins.

28. SuperVanish / PremiumVanish, Staff vanish plugin. Become completely invisible to other plugins, NPCs, and even tab list, not just hidden like the vanilla invisibility effect. Essential for moderation.

Performance, Keep your server running at 20 TPS

29. Spark, Profiler and monitoring tool. Analyze tick times, identify lag sources, view thread dumps, and track TPS history over time. The first thing you install when diagnosing performance problems. Covered in the optimization guide.

30. Chunky, Pre-generates chunks in a defined radius so they do not cause lag when players explore. Run it once before opening the server and chunk generation lag disappears.

31. ClearLag, Removes dropped items, limits entity counts, and cleans up unnecessary entities on a configurable timer. Prevents item spam from causing TPS drops.

32. FarmControl / FarmLimiter, Limits the size of automated farms that cause server-side lag. Configurable caps on mob spawner rates, crop growth ticks, and hopper throughput. Keeps your TPS stable without banning farms entirely.

33. ViewDistanceTweaks, Dynamically adjusts view distance per player based on current TPS. When the server is under load, view distance drops slightly; when the server is idle, it increases. Smooth performance without a fixed compromise.

Admin, Server management and moderation

34. LiteBans, Banning, muting, kicking and warning system with web interface, history, and multi-server sync. Cleaner and more featureful than the ban system in EssentialsX.

35. TAB, Customizable tab list with rank prefixes, suffixes, header, footer, nametags and sorting. The most capable tab list plugin available, with deep PlaceholderAPI integration.

36. FastLogin, Allows cracked (offline-mode) and premium players to coexist on the same server. Auto-detects premium accounts and applies proper UUID handling. Useful for servers in regions where many players use non-premium accounts.

37. Plan (Player Analytics), Web dashboard showing player activity, session history, server performance metrics, geolocation, and retention data. Useful for understanding your community's habits.

38. LPC (Login Protection / AuthMe Reloaded), Authentication plugin for offline-mode servers. Players register with a password and must log in each session. Prevents account impersonation on cracked servers.

39. Multiverse-Core, Manage multiple worlds from one server. Create, import, delete and teleport between worlds. Pair with Multiverse-Portals for custom portal links between worlds.

40. Maintenance, Toggle maintenance mode with a configurable MOTD, whitelist, and countdown. Useful for scheduled restarts and updates.

PvP, Combat and competitive features

41. CombatLogX, Prevents players from logging out during combat. If a player disconnects while tagged, their character stays in-world (or is killed, depending on config). Essential for any survival or factions server with PvP.

42. Duels, Structured 1v1 and team duel system with arenas, kits, ELO ratings and queue. Lets players challenge each other fairly without interfering with the main world.

43. BattleArena / PvPManager, Controls where PvP is enabled, per-world or per-region. Toggle PvP for individual players, set newbie protection timers, and configure combat rules.

Crossplay, Java + Bedrock together

44. Geyser, Translates Bedrock Edition protocol to Java Edition, allowing Bedrock players to join your Java server. No mods needed on either side. Works as a plugin on Paper or as a standalone proxy.

45. Floodgate, Companion to Geyser. Handles Bedrock player authentication so they do not need a Java account. Assigns UUID prefixes to Bedrock players to avoid conflicts with Java UUIDs.

Miscellaneous, Everything else worth having

46. DiscordSRV, Links your Minecraft server to Discord. Chat sync, console channel, account linking, role sync with LuckPerms. The standard Minecraft-Discord bridge. Setup guide here.

47. PlotSquared, Plot-based world management for creative or housing servers. Players claim plots, build within them, and can merge adjacent plots. Efficient and well-maintained.

48. Dynmap / BlueMap, Renders a live web-based map of your Minecraft world. Players can view it in a browser to see terrain, player locations, and markers. Dynmap is the classic; BlueMap is newer with 3D rendering.

49. Skript, A scripting language for Minecraft servers. Write custom functionality in a readable syntax without Java development. Great for small custom features, event handlers, and server-specific logic without a full plugin.

50. ServerUtils / PlugManX, Hot-load and unload plugins without restarting the server. Useful during development and testing, though a full restart is still recommended for production changes.

How to choose the right combination

Do not install all 50. Start with the foundation: EssentialsX, LuckPerms, Vault, PlaceholderAPI. Add protection: WorldGuard, CoreProtect, GriefPrevention. Then layer in the plugins that match your server type. A survival economy server might add Jobs Reborn, ShopGUIPlus, AuctionHouse, and CrazyCrates. A PvP server might add CombatLogX, Duels, and an anticheat instead.

Every plugin you add consumes memory and CPU cycles. The optimization guide covers how to tune your server for maximum performance, and the best survival plugins list narrows this list down for that specific server type.
