The same first-night starter house, shot from directly overhead so you can read the whole layout and watch every block placed in order, layer by layer.
Read it from above, layer by layer
1
Lay the foundation
From above you can see the whole plot. Mark out a small 7x6 base and fill the floor line in cobblestone.
2
Raise the walls
Build the oak plank walls up course by course with oak log corner posts. The top-down view keeps every wall in frame.
3
Add a door and window
Leave a doorway and a glass window in the wall as you go round.
4
Build the roof
Cap it with a simple gable roof. Watch the last layers drop in from overhead.
5
Light and furnish
Add torches, a bed, crafting table, furnace and chest inside.
What you need
Quick answers
What does the top-down build view show?
It films the whole build from directly overhead, so you can read the exact 7x6 layout and watch each layer fill in block by block. It is the clearest way to copy the footprint and the wall pattern into your own world.
How do you build a starter house in Minecraft?
Clear a flat spot, lay a small 7x7 cobblestone foundation, raise oak plank walls about three blocks high with log corner posts, leave a doorway and a window, then cap it with a simple gable roof. Add a door and torches and you have a safe first-night base.
What blocks do you need for a starter house?
Just the basics you gather on day one: oak logs turned into planks, cobblestone from mining, a door, some glass for windows and torches for light. A crafting table, furnace, chest and bed go inside.
How big should a starter house be?
Keep it small for night one, around 6x6 or 7x7 inside, so it is fast to build and easy to light. You can always knock out a wall and extend it into a proper base later.
How do you stop mobs spawning in or around it?
Light the inside and the area just outside with torches so no spot is dark, and seal every gap with blocks or a door. Building on a hill or against a cliff cuts down the open sides mobs can reach.
Does the build work the same on Java and Bedrock?
Yes. Placing blocks, doors, glass and torches works identically on both editions, so the same starter house layout and steps apply whether you play Java or Bedrock.
