How to Run an Events Calendar for Your Server

Plan and promote a regular events calendar for your minecraft server using Discord scheduling, in-game announcements, and web calendars.

Why Run Scheduled Events?

An events calendar for your minecraft server turns casual visitors into regulars. When players know that a build contest happens every Saturday and a PvP tournament runs on the first Friday of the month, they schedule their free time around your server. Predictable events boost retention, peak player counts, and community engagement.

Planning Your Calendar

Frequency

Start with one weekly event and one monthly event. Overcommitting leads to burnout and empty lobbies. Once your staff team grows, you can fill more slots.

Event Types

  • Build Contests: Give a theme, a time limit, and let players vote on the winner.
  • PvP Tournaments: Bracket-style or free-for-all in a dedicated arena.
  • Treasure Hunts: Hide items across the map and give clues in chat.
  • Drop Parties: Staff throw rare items from a platform. Simple but popular.
  • Lore Events: Roleplay-driven quests with NPCs and storylines.
  • Seasonal Events: Holiday themes with limited-time rewards.

Publishing the Calendar

Discord Events

Discord's built-in Scheduled Events feature is the easiest option. Create an event with a date, time, description, and cover image. Members see it in the Events tab and can mark "Interested," which sends them a reminder. Use a dedicated #events channel for discussion.

Website Calendar

If you run a website, embed a Google Calendar or build a simple events page. This helps with SEO and gives non-Discord users visibility. Keep the calendar synced with your Discord announcements so information never conflicts.

In-Game Announcements

Use a broadcast plugin or scheduled tasks to send periodic reminders in chat. A message like "Build Contest this Saturday at 3 PM EST, type /events for details" keeps the calendar visible to players who do not check Discord.

Running the Event

  • Start 5 minutes early with a warmup or lobby area.
  • Have at least two staff members online: one to run the event, one to handle moderation.
  • Record results and post them in Discord afterward.
  • Distribute prizes promptly. Delayed rewards kill enthusiasm.

Tracking and Improving

Log attendance for each event. If turnout drops, survey your players or try a different time slot. An events calendar for your minecraft server is only valuable if people actually show up, so iterate based on data.

Promote your events through your Discord bot and voting sites to maximize reach.
