How to Set Up a Player Suggestions System

Build a suggestions system for your minecraft server using Discord channels, web forms, or in-game commands so players can submit and vote on ideas.

Why You Need Player Feedback

Your players know what they want. A suggestions system for your minecraft server gives them a structured way to share ideas, vote on priorities, and feel heard. Servers that listen to feedback retain players longer because the community shapes the roadmap.

Option 1: Discord Suggestions Channel

The simplest approach is a dedicated #suggestions channel in Discord. Set the channel permissions so only a bot can post (to keep it clean), and players submit suggestions via a slash command or a bot-managed form. Popular bots for this include:

  • Carl-bot: Reaction-based voting with auto-reactions (thumbs up/down) on each suggestion.
  • Suggestions Bot: Purpose-built bot that tracks suggestion status (pending, approved, denied, implemented).
  • YAGPDB: Custom command setup that posts formatted suggestion embeds.

Workflow

  • Player runs /suggest Add a fishing minigame
  • Bot posts the suggestion in #suggestions with upvote/downvote reactions
  • Staff reviews, adds a status tag (approved/denied), and optionally responds
  • Approved suggestions move to a #planned channel or Trello board

Option 2: Web-Based Forms

A Google Form or Tally form linked from your website and Discord works well for longer, more detailed suggestions. You can collect the player's in-game name, category (gameplay, builds, events, rules), and a description. Responses flow into a spreadsheet that staff reviews weekly.

Option 3: In-Game Plugin

Plugins like BetterSuggestions or AdvancedSuggestions let players type /suggest directly in Minecraft. Staff can approve or deny from in-game or from a web dashboard. This keeps players who do not use Discord in the feedback loop.

Best Practices

  • Respond to every suggestion. Even a "Thanks, we will consider this" shows you read it.
  • Set expectations. Pin a message explaining that not all suggestions will be implemented and why.
  • Batch reviews. Pick a day each week to review all new suggestions as a team.
  • Celebrate implemented ideas. When you ship a player's suggestion, credit them publicly. It encourages more submissions.
  • Prevent duplicates. Point players to search existing suggestions before posting.

A well-run suggestions system for your minecraft server turns passive players into active contributors. Combine it with your Discord status bot to keep the community engaged across platforms.

Skip the panel setup entirely. Astroworld Hosting comes with a full Pterodactyl panel, file manager, console, and scheduling on every plan.
