A comparison is only useful if it names the situation

Every comparison here is written to end in a situation rather than in a verdict. Which enchantment, which tool, which mob, which strategy, given what you are actually doing at the time. That is also why the numbers appear early: once you can see the values, the choice usually makes itself.

Numbers first, opinions second

Damage per hit, durability, mining speed, drop rate and spawn weight are all measurable, and they settle most arguments before they start. Where two options are genuinely close, the comparison says so instead of inventing a difference to justify a recommendation.

Every ranking in this category carries the condition it holds under, because a tier list without one is a coin flip with extra steps.

The enchantment rankings are the clearest case. They are sorted for survival play by default and say plainly where PvP or a mining-only world flips the order.

Fortune and Silk Touch are not competitors at all. Fortune multiplies drops from ore that breaks into items; Silk Touch moves the block itself. On diamond ore they are a choice, on a spawner or a glass pane there is only one answer.

Best-of lists have a shelf life
