How to Get Wolf Armor
Wolf armor turns a pet wolf into a tank, and the whole thing starts with a small armoured critter called the armadillo. The supply chain is short: armadillo, to scutes, to armor, to one very well-protected dog.

The four steps
Same chain the animation runs, spelled out.
1Find an armadillo
They wander the open in savannas and badlands. Lead one back to base with spider eyes if you want a steady supply on tap.
2Get its scutes
Use a brush on it for an instant scute, or just wait: a healthy armadillo sheds one every few minutes. It curls into a ball when threatened, never aggressive to you.
3Craft the armor
Lay
six armadillo scutes in the wolf-armor shape at a
crafting table to make one set.
4Equip and repair
Use the armor on a tamed wolf. Top it back up with more scutes, dye it, and pop it off with shears whenever you like.
Good to know
The armadillo
- ◆Spawns in savannas and badlands
- ◆Rolls into a ball when a mob threatens it
- ◆Sheds a scute every few minutes on its own
- ◆A brush gets you scutes faster
- ◆Breed them with spider eyes
Wolf armor
- ◆Only fits a tamed wolf
- ◆Soaks up a big chunk of incoming damage
- ◆Repaired by using armadillo scutes on it
- ◆Dyeable in all 16 colours, plus trims
- ◆Shears take it off again, undamaged
Make it yours
+Drop wolf armor and a dye in the grid to colour it. All 16 dyes work, you can layer an armor trim on top, and a water cauldron washes the colour back out if you change your mind.
Quick answers
01Where do armadillos spawn?
On the surface in savanna and badlands biomes. They are not rare once you are in the right biome.
02How do I get scutes fast?
Brush the armadillo for an instant scute. Left alone it also sheds one on its own every few minutes.
03How many scutes for wolf armor?
Six armadillo scutes make one set of wolf armor at a crafting table.
04Does it work on any wolf?
Only on a wolf you have tamed with bones. Wild wolves cannot be equipped.
05How do I repair or remove it?
Use armadillo scutes on the armored wolf to repair it, and shears to take the armor back off undamaged.
06Can I dye wolf armor?
Yes, any of the 16 dye colours, and a water cauldron washes the colour back out.

Armadillo scutes and a dog that survives
Scutes come from brushing, not killing
Armadillo scute is collected by brushing a live armadillo, which drops one and leaves the animal alone. Armadillos also shed naturally, so a small pen with a few of them is a renewable supply rather than a one time collection.
The armour repairs and dyes
Wolf armour takes damage instead of the wolf and can be repaired with more scutes, so a wolf that survives a fight in bad armour is not a lost cause. It also takes dye, which makes it the easiest way to tell several tamed wolves apart at a glance.
Shears take it off without breaking it
Using shears on an armoured wolf removes the armour and drops it intact, which matters when you want to move it to another wolf. Killing the wolf to recover the armour is the mistake worth naming, because the armour drops either way and the wolf does not come back.
