What each ingredient turns into what
Most ingredient lists tell you what an item makes. This one lists every recipe an ingredient takes part in, which is a different and more useful question, because several of them appear in more than one place. The Fermented Spider Eye alone shows up in eleven separate conversions, and Redstone Dust and Glowstone Dust appear once for every potion that can be extended or enhanced.

Which ingredients are worth farming first
The brewing shelf is not evenly expensive. Nether Wart and Blaze Powder appear in almost every chain and both farm themselves once you have a fortress, while a Ghast Tear and a Turtle Shell are one-off hunts that gate exactly one potion each. Sugar, Spider Eye, Rabbit's Foot and Pufferfish are cheap enough to ignore, and the Fermented Spider Eye is the one ingredient that repays learning properly, because it appears in eleven separate conversions and turns four different potions into something else. Farm wart and powder, then buy your luck on the rest.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which ingredients are hardest to obtain?
Dragon's Breath requires fighting the Ender Dragon (or resummoning it). Ghast Tears require Nether exploration with the risk of tears falling into lava. Rabbit's Foot has a low base drop rate. Everything else can be farmed relatively easily.
Can I use modifiers in any order?
Redstone and Glowstone are mutually exclusive per potion. Adding one removes the other's modification. Gunpowder and Dragon's Breath are sequential (potion to splash to lingering) and cannot be reversed.
Do I need to go to the Nether to brew potions?
Yes, for most potions. Nether Wart and Blaze Rods are both Nether-exclusive items and are required for almost every useful potion. The only exception is the Potion of Weakness, which brews from a Water Bottle and a Fermented Spider Eye without any Nether ingredients.
