Splash and Lingering Invisibility

Add Gunpowder to a finished Invisibility potion to create a Splash Potion of Invisibility you can throw. A splash Invisibility affects every entity within a small radius on impact, and the Invisibility it applies is at full strength where the bottle lands, dropping away with distance until it is nothing four blocks out. Add Dragon's Breath to a Splash Potion of Invisibility to create a Lingering Potion of Invisibility, which leaves an area-of-effect cloud of Invisibility on the ground. A lingering Invisibility cloud applies a quarter of the drinkable duration each time it touches you, and it keeps applying that Invisibility for as long as the cloud sits there.

Best Uses

  • PvP: Strip off all armour before drinking to become fully invisible. With no armour, other players cannot see your nametag at close range either (though server mods may override this).
  • PvE: Reduces mob detection range significantly. Most hostile mobs only detect you at 7 % of their normal range when you wear no armour. Wearing armour increases the detection range by about 17 % per piece.
  • Pranks and traps: Splash Invisibility on a team-mate or hostile mob can create confusion during events.

Invisibility in exact numbers

Invisibility does have one attribute, and it is a recent and easily missed one: it sets your range on the locator bar to minus one hundred percent of the total, which means an invisible player is not just hard to see but absent from the bar other players read you off. Against mobs the effect is partial, since armour and held items stay visible, but against people it now removes the one signal that always worked.

What Invisibility hides and what it does not

Invisibility is a partial disguise against mobs and a complete one against the locator bar. Invisibility leaves your armour, your held item, your arrows and your particle effects visible, so a player in full netherite drinking Invisibility is a floating suit. Against other players Invisibility now also sets your locator range to nothing, which is the part worth brewing for. Three minutes is the base and eight the extended one, and Invisibility has no second level, because a Fermented Spider Eye inverts Night Vision rather than scaling it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can mobs still see me while invisible?

It depends. Mobs have a reduced detection range. With no armour the range drops to roughly 7 % of normal. Each armour piece increases detection range. Spiders, the Ender Dragon, and the Warden are not affected by Invisibility at all.

Does invisibility hide my armour?

No. Equipped armour, held items, and particle effects remain visible. For full stealth, remove all equipment.

Can I use extended Night Vision to make extended Invisibility?

You can, but it is more efficient to brew base Night Vision, corrupt it to Invisibility, and then extend the Invisibility potion directly with Redstone Dust. Both methods produce the same result.

Does Invisibility hide me from other players' locator bar?

Yes, and this is the part that catches people out. Invisibility now carries an attribute that reduces your range on the locator bar by one hundred percent of the total, so an invisible player does not appear on it at all. Against mobs the effect is still partial, because armour and held items stay visible.

How long does Invisibility last in ticks?

3600 at base and 9600 extended, the same clock as the Night Vision it is brewed from. There is no enhanced version: a Fermented Spider Eye on Night Vision inverts the effect rather than scaling it, so there is no amplifier to raise.
