Brewing Chain

- Add Rabbit's Foot to produce Potion of Leaping (3:00).
Variants
| Variant | Modifier | Effect | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Potion of Leaping | - | Jump Boost (+ 0.5 blocks) | 3:00 |
| Potion of Leaping (Extended) | Redstone Dust | Jump Boost | 8:00 |
| Potion of Leaping II | Glowstone Dust | Jump Boost II (+ 1.25 blocks) | 1:30 |
| Splash Potion of Leaping | Gunpowder | Jump Boost (throwable) | 2:15 |
| Lingering Potion of Leaping | Dragon's Breath on Splash | Jump Boost (area cloud) | 0:45 |
Splash and Lingering Leaping
Add Gunpowder to a finished Leaping potion to create a Splash Potion of Leaping you can throw. A splash Leaping affects every entity within a small radius on impact, and the Leaping it applies is at full strength where the bottle lands, dropping away with distance until it is nothing four blocks out. Add Dragon's Breath to a Splash Potion of Leaping to create a Lingering Potion of Leaping, which leaves an area-of-effect cloud of Leaping on the ground. A lingering Leaping cloud applies a quarter of the drinkable duration each time it touches you, and it keeps applying that Leaping for as long as the cloud sits there.
Best Uses
- Parkour and traversal: Jump Boost II lets you clear 2.25-block-high jumps, making parkour courses and vertical traversal much easier.
- Wall scaling: Combine with sprinting to jump up terrain that would normally require stairways or scaffolding.
- PvP: The extra jump height lets you gain high ground and makes you harder to hit in melee exchanges.
Leaping in exact numbers
Jump Boost quietly does two things. The obvious one is the jump itself, and the one almost nobody accounts for is an attribute that raises your safe fall distance by one full block per level, added as a flat value. That is why a Jump Boost jump does not hurt on landing even though you fell further: the height you are allowed to fall grew with the height you can reach.
| Leaping: what was checked | Value in Java 26.2 |
|---|---|
| What Leaping applies | Jump boost, counted as a beneficial effect |
| Leaping base duration | 3600 ticks (3:00) |
| What Leaping changes | safe fall distance by +1 as a flat value, per level |
| Leaping particle colour | #FDFF84, stored as 16646020 |
| Extended Leaping with Redstone Dust | 9600 ticks (8:00) |
| Leaping II with Glowstone Dust | 1800 ticks (1:30) at amplifier 1 |
| Splash Leaping at the point of impact | 3600 ticks (3:00), no shorter than the bottle |
| Splash Leaping one block away | 2701 ticks (2:15.1); further away is less, and four blocks out is zero |
| Lingering Leaping cloud | 901 ticks (0:45.1) each time it ticks on you, a quarter of the bottle |
| Tipped arrow of Leaping | 451 ticks (0:22.6) per hit, an eighth of the bottle |
| Brewing Leaping | a Rabbit's Foot on an Awkward Potion |
| Leaping turns into | the Slowness potion, with a Fermented Spider Eye |
Leaping for parkour and for the landing
Leaping is two effects wearing one name. Leaping raises the jump itself, and Leaping also raises your safe fall distance by a full block per level, so a Leaping jump does not punish you on the way down. Leaping II doubles both of those and halves the clock to 90 seconds, which is the version to drink for a parkour run rather than for a trip. Where Leaping catches people out is a ceiling: a Leaping jump in a two block corridor is a headbutt, so drink Leaping outside and walk in.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Jump Boost increase fall damage?
No. Jump Boost actually reduces fall damage. The game subtracts the extra jump height from the fall distance calculation, so you take the same fall damage as if you had jumped from normal height.
How do I find Rabbits for Rabbit's Foot?
Rabbits spawn in deserts, flower forests, taigas, snowy taigas, snowy plains, and groves. Use a Looting III sword to increase the drop chance from 10 % to up to 19 %.
Can I corrupt Leaping into another potion?
Yes. Adding a Fermented Spider Eye to a Potion of Leaping creates a Potion of Slowness.
Does Jump Boost change anything besides the jump?
Yes, and it is the part almost nobody accounts for. Jump Boost carries an attribute that raises your safe fall distance by one full block per level, added as a flat value. The height you are allowed to fall grows along with the height you can reach, which is why the extra jump does not cost you health on landing.
How long does Leaping last in ticks?
3600 at base, 9600 with Redstone Dust and 1800 for Leaping II at amplifier one. A Fermented Spider Eye turns any of them into Slowness, which makes Leaping one of two potions that lead into the same negative effect.
