Brewing Chain

  1. Fill Glass Bottles at any water source to get the Water Bottles every Oozing brew starts from.
  2. Add Nether Wart to brew the Awkward Potions that Oozing needs as a base.
  3. Add a Slime Block to produce the Potion of Oozing.

Note the cost: it is a whole Slime Block, so nine slimeballs per brew, and the stand takes the block rather than the balls. A slime chunk farm pays for this potion comfortably; hunting swamps at night does not.

What the effect actually does

Oozing does nothing while it runs, and everything at the end. When the carrier is killed, the game spawns two slimes of size two, the small variety with four health, at the spot where it died. Two is a fixed number and not a range, which sets it apart from the ordinary split chain a big slime goes through.

Two limits apply before they appear. The game counts slimes already within two blocks and subtracts them, so an area that is already full of slimes produces fewer, and the total is capped by the entity cramming rule, which is twenty four by default. Both checks make Oozing safe to use in a farm without it running away from you.

Best Uses

  • Slimeball farming: two small slimes per kill, each dropping slimeballs, from a mob that was going to die anyway.
  • Tipped arrows: put Oozing on a mob at range and collect the slimes when it drops.
  • Not for corridors: in a tight space you are handing yourself two extra bodies to fight while you are already busy.

Oozing in exact numbers

Oozing turns a death into two small slimes, and the interesting part is what the game checks first: slimes already standing within two blocks are subtracted from the two it was about to make, and the entity cramming rule caps the result. It is a potion with a built in brake, which is unusual.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many slimes does the Oozing potion spawn?

Two, of size two, which is the small variety with four health. It is a fixed count rather than a roll, minus any slimes already within two blocks of the spot, and capped by the entity cramming rule at twenty four.

How long does Oozing last?

3600 ticks, three minutes, with no extended and no enhanced version. Splashed at the point of impact it is the full three minutes, and a tipped arrow of Oozing carries 451 ticks, which is still far longer than most fights.

Does Oozing work on players?

Yes. A player killed while carrying the effect leaves the same two small slimes behind, which on a server is either a joke or a tactic depending on where the fight happened.

Is Oozing a good way to farm slimeballs?

It is a good supplement rather than a farm on its own, because each brew costs a Slime Block, which is nine slimeballs. It pays off when you use it on mobs you were already killing rather than on slimes.

What happens if the area is already full of slimes?

Fewer spawn, or none. The count within two blocks is subtracted before anything appears, so an Oozing kill in the middle of a slime farm can produce nothing at all, and that is the design rather than a bug.
