Cobweb is the cheapest ingredient of the four trial chamber potions, since Shears bring webs back whole out of any mineshaft, and String crafts into more.

What the effect actually does

Weaving is the only one of the four that does something while it runs. A cobweb normally cuts your movement to a quarter horizontally and a twentieth vertically, which is what makes webs so punishing. With Weaving those figures become a half and a quarter: twice as fast sideways through a web, and five times as fast up or down through one.

On death it leaves two to three cobwebs behind. The game tries fifteen random spots within one block of where the carrier died and places a web wherever it finds a replaceable block sitting on a solid surface, so the webs land on the floor around the body rather than floating. For mobs this needs the mob griefing rule switched on; for a player it always happens.
