Netherite is the endgame upgrade: tougher than diamond, knockback resistant, and fireproof. The grind is real but predictable. Drop to Y -15blast tunnels with beds so the explosion-proof ore survives, smelt scrap to ingots, and smithing-upgrade a full diamond kit. Here is the exact loadout and pattern.

The bed-blast strip mine

Tunnel to Y -15 and dig 1-wide corridors. At each corridor end, place a bed, back off 4+ blocks behind cover, and right-click to detonate. The blast clears a roughly 5x5 pocket of netherrack but leaves ancient debris standing because of its 1200 blast resistance. Mine the exposed debris with a diamond or netherite pickaxe, smelt to scrap, then craft 4 scrap + 4 gold = 1 ingot. Budget 24 debris for full armor and a sword, and bring fire resistance potions so a stray lava pocket from the blast does not end the run.

What the upgrade actually buys you

Netherite and diamond both reach twenty armour points, so the trade is not about protection points at all. It is about the two columns on the right: toughness rises from 2 to 3, and knockback resistance goes from nothing to 0.1 a piece. Netherite also has an enchantability of 15 against diamond's 10.

What Y level is best for ancient debris?

Y -15 has the highest spawn rate. Debris can generate from Y -8 down to Y -119, but -15 gives the best blocks-per-minute on a 1-wide strip mine or bed-blast pattern.

Why is bed mining safe in the Nether?

Beds explode when used in the Nether or End, dealing ~76 damage at point blank. Ancient debris has a blast resistance of 1200, so it survives the blast while the surrounding netherrack (resistance 0.4) is cleared, exposing ore for free.

How much ancient debris for full netherite?

1 ingot per item. Each ingot needs 4 scrap, and each scrap comes from smelting 1 debris. Full armor (4) + sword + pickaxe = 6 ingots = 24 debris plus 24 gold ingots.

Where do I get the smithing template?

The Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template is found in Bastion Remnant chests. It is consumed per upgrade, so duplicate it: place the template + 7 diamonds + 1 netherrack in a smithing table to copy it.

Is netherite armor worth it over diamond?

Yes. Netherite adds +1 armor toughness and knockback resistance per piece, has higher durability, and items float on lava instead of burning, so you keep your gear if you die in a lava lake.

Can TNT mine ancient debris instead of beds?

Yes. TNT and end crystals work the same way, leaving blast-resistant debris standing. Beds are cheapest early game since wool and planks are renewable; TNT needs sand and gunpowder.

Is netherite armour worth the upgrade?

For the toughness, the knockback resistance and the enchantability, yes. For armour points, no: both sets sit at twenty, and anyone promising more protection points from netherite is quoting a figure that does not exist.

Does netherite gear last longer?

Yes. A netherite tool carries 2031 uses against diamond's 1561, and netherite items survive lava rather than burning, which in practice saves more gear than the durability figure does.
