| Potion of Regeneration | - | Regen (1 HP / 2.5s) | 0:45 | 18 HP (9 hearts) |
| Potion of Regeneration (Extended) | Redstone Dust | Regen (1 HP / 2.5s) | 1:30 | 36 HP (18 hearts) |
| Potion of Regeneration II | Glowstone Dust | Regen II (1 HP / 1.2s) | 0:22 | 18 HP (9 hearts) |

| Lingering Potion of Regeneration | Dragon's Breath on Splash | Regen (area cloud) | 0:11 | ~4 HP |
Splash and Lingering Regeneration
Add Gunpowder to a finished Regeneration potion to create a Splash Potion of Regeneration you can throw. A splash Regeneration affects every entity within a small radius on impact, and the Regeneration it applies is at full strength where the bottle lands, dropping away with distance until it is nothing four blocks out. Add Dragon's Breath to a Splash Potion of Regeneration to create a Lingering Potion of Regeneration, which leaves an area-of-effect cloud of Regeneration on the ground. A lingering Regeneration cloud applies a quarter of the drinkable duration each time it touches you, and it keeps applying that Regeneration for as long as the cloud sits there.
Best Uses
- Sustained fights: The extended version restores up to 18 hearts over 90 seconds, making it the best sustain potion for drawn-out PvE encounters like Trial Chambers.
- PvP: Regen II provides faster healing for short, intense fights. Pair with Healing II splashes for burst healing on top of passive regeneration.
- Boss fights: Drink extended Regeneration before engaging the Wither. The passive healing offsets chip damage while you focus on dodging and attacking.
Regeneration in exact numbers
Regeneration is the shortest of the ordinary timed potions: forty five seconds at base, where Strength and Speed both start at three minutes. Extending it gets you to a minute and a half, and the enhanced version cuts you back to twenty two and a half seconds while doubling the tick rate. It is deliberately a burst effect, not something you drink before setting out.
| Regeneration: what was checked | Value in Java 26.2 |
|---|---|
| What Regeneration applies | Regeneration, counted as a beneficial effect |
| Regeneration base duration | 900 ticks (0:45) |
| Regeneration particle colour | #CD5CAB, stored as 13458603 |
| Extended Regeneration with Redstone Dust | 1800 ticks (1:30) |
| Regeneration II with Glowstone Dust | 450 ticks (0:22.5) at amplifier 1 |
| Splash Regeneration at the point of impact | 900 ticks (0:45), the same as drinking it yourself |
| Splash Regeneration one block away | 676 ticks (0:33.8); the share shrinks with every block and is nothing at four |
| Lingering Regeneration cloud | 226 ticks (0:11.3) per application, a quarter of the bottle |
| Tipped arrow of Regeneration | 113 ticks (0:05.7), an eighth, and eight arrows come out of one bottle |

Why Regeneration is short on purpose
Regeneration is the shortest of the timed potions at 45 seconds, and Regeneration is priced that way because it heals through anything that is not instant. Regeneration extended reaches a minute and a half, and Regeneration II cuts the clock to 22.5 seconds while doubling the tick rate, so the enhanced bottle heals about the same total in half the time. The practical use of Regeneration is the moment after a hit rather than the minute before a fight, and Regeneration is also what makes a totem survivable, because the totem hands you two health and Regeneration turns those two into ten.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Regeneration or Healing better?
It depends on the situation. Healing provides instant HP recovery and is better for emergencies. Regeneration provides sustained recovery over time and is better for prolonged fights where you take continuous damage.
Does Regeneration work on undead?
No. Regeneration has no effect on undead mobs. Unlike Healing (which damages undead), Regeneration simply does nothing to them.
Can I stack Regeneration with natural health regeneration?
Yes. The potion effect stacks with the natural regeneration that occurs when your hunger bar is at 18+ points. Both heal independently.
Why is Regeneration so much shorter than the other potions?
It runs on 900 ticks where Strength and Speed both start at 3600. Extending it reaches 1800 and enhancing it drops to 450 while doubling the tick rate. It is deliberately a burst heal rather than something you drink before setting out, and the numbers say so plainly.
How much of that survives a throw?
At the point of impact a splash Regeneration keeps the full 900 ticks, one block away it is 676, the lingering cloud carries 226 and a tipped arrow 113. Because the base is short to begin with, Regeneration loses more to distance in practice than any of the three minute potions.
